John B. Gelvin, O.D., F.A.A.O.
John B. Gelvin O.D., F.A.A.O. has practiced in Kansas City, MO for the past 11 years. As President of Omni Eye Centers of Kansas City, he has brought the concept of medical and surgical co-management back to Kansas City. Prior to this, he provided patient care at Hunkeler Eye Institute. There, he focuses on diagnostic and therapeutic consultative glaucoma services. Dr. Gelvin practiced in Indiana prior to returning to the Midwest. There, he was the medical director of a large surgical co-management center called Faust-Gelvin Eye Center which had 3 locations in Northeast Indiana.
Dr. Gelvin completed his undergraduate work at the University of Nebraska and earned his doctor of optometry degree at the Indiana University School of Optometry. He completed his residency in Advanced Ophthalmic Disease at Northeastern State University, W.W. Hastings Indian Hospital in Tahlequah, Okla. and Vision Education Foundation, Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Active in education and training, Dr. Gelvin has extensive teaching and research experience in glaucoma. He also instituted the Ophthalmic Disease Service at the Indiana University School of Optometry. Dr. Gelvin’s scientific work has appeared in medical textbooks and journals including Optometry and Vision Science, Optometry Clinics, and Journal of the American Optometric Association.
Dr. Gelvin dedicates much of his efforts to numerous medical and community organizations. As part of his role in the Fellowship of Christian Optometrists, he is Director of ChristianVision Eye Services to Haiti. He is a member of the American Optometric Association, a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, and a member of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. Additionally, Dr. Gelvin served as Chairman of the National Board of Examiners in Optometry Clinical Skills Examination Committee. Each year, he is a Chief Examiner for the National Board of Examiners in Optometry. Recently, he served in the capacity of President of the Christianville Foundation Board of Directors in addition to being a member of the board for nine years, which coordinates missionary activities in Haiti. Locally, he is an officer of the Board of the Missouri Optometric Association and is a member to the Kansas City Optometric Society.
Jeffry D. Gerson, O.D., F.A.A.O.
Dr. Jeffry Gerson graduated from Indiana University school of optometry in 1997. He then went on to complete a residency at the VAmedical center in Kansas City concentrating on ocular disease and low vision. Immediately after leaving the VA, he became faculty at the University of Kansas school of medicine in the department of ophthalmology. Dr. Gerson was responsible for staffing clinics as well as some resident education and development of a low vision clinic.
Before entering his current practice, he was in several different practices, including 2 ½ years at Mid America Retina Consultants in Kansas City. This is a retinal referral center where he had access to numerous diagnostic technologies a well as participation in numerous clinical trials. His current practice, WestGlen Eyecare provides full scope care and he continues to provide retinal consultations for colleagues.
Dr. Gerson has authored several articles in journals such as “Review of Optometry” and “Optometric Management”, and continues to do so. He also lectures frequently on the topics of retinal disease and systemic disease both here in the US and abroad. He is a member of the American Optometric Association as well as the Kansas and Missouri optometric associations. He is a fellow of both the Academy of Optometry and Optometric Retina Society.
Andrew L. Moyes, M.D.
Dr. Moyes is a board certified ophthalmic surgeon specializing in refractive surgery, cataract surgery and corneal transplantation. He graduated with honors from the University of Kansas School of Medicine, completed an internal medicine internship at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, then completed a three year residency at the University of Michigan's Kellogg Eye Center.
He enhanced his medical education by completing an additional fellowship in corneal eye disease and refractive surgery at the University of Minnesota.
A leader in refractive surgery, Dr. Moyes has performed over 20,000 cataract and refractive surgery procedures during his career. He has served as a Clinical Investigator for multiple FDA studies in the area of refractive surgery, cataract surgery, and corneal eye disease.
James D. Paauw, M.D.
James Paauw, MD, is an ophthalmic surgeon specializing in glaucoma and cataract surgery. He is a graduate of the UniversityofMichigan Medical School in Ann Arbor, MI with distinction in research and completed his general surgery internship at Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine in Temple, TX. He completed his 3 year residency in Ophthalmology at the Scott & White Eye Institute at Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine.
During this time, Dr. Paauw did an elective rotation with the world-renowned George Spaeth,M.D. at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. During his residency, he served as co-editor of Career Physician Briefings in Ophthalmology and was chief resident for the program in his final year of residency.
Dr. Paauw then went on to complete a glaucoma surgery fellowship at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine’s Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. Throughout his education, he has accumulated a great deal of research experience and is a prolific writer and presenter on eye care topics. Among his charitable activities, Dr. Paauw has participated in multiple ophthalmology mission trips to Mexico and Kenya. Outside of ophthalmology, he participates in several sports, including basketball, softball, tennis, golf and luge.
